Hi, just after a bit of advice...

been told I need a new radiator and thermostat and quoted £270+vat for the work. Am satisfied that it needs doing after seeing how much the rad has bowed at the bottom but wondering how easy it is to do either or both jobs myself? Anyone done this?

I've done one and it was OK to do, but then I do it for a living

You will need to remove the plastics out the way including the air filter box to give you more room, then the shroud needs to go, #2/3 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BN52&mospid=47620&btnr=17_0139&hg=17&fg=05.

Expansion tank can be a pain to remove from the rad, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BN52&mospid=47620&btnr=17_0140&hg=17&fg=05. need to remember to remove the clip (#4) at the bottom as well.

Replace the expansion tank as it is the no # 1 cause of E46 engine failures (splitting).
