I have replaced the sat/nav drive unit located in the luggage compartment of my vehicle which needs to be recoded to the dashboard monitor. Is there anybody out there other than a BMW dealership who can do this Cheers

E46 nav does not need recoding being needed for the monitor, unless you have bought a mono nav and have a colour screen.

You can change the VIN and the vehicle type in the NAV with navcoder, although none of this is essential nor does it prevent your nav from making an image on the monitor and giving you navigation guidance.

If you have a whitescreen and you definitely have a colour nav (identifiable by the model number on the sticker), then your nav may be faulty.

Thanks for the info I have the small screen monochrome monitor which was replaced 2yrs ago along with the the radio siuated in the boot, but the sat/nav drive was also knackered giving no display to the monitor. BMW dealership confirmed this. After along search I found a secondhand sat/nav drive unit same part number which I've learned at some cost £---- is important. Prior to obtaining my current nav/drive unit I purchased a used drive from America identical in appearence but different part number.
An Indy BMW specialist tried to code the drive to the monitor with no joy claiming that the drive was from a series 5 with widescreen colour monitor and was not compatible with smallscreen monochrome ?
Would this have caused a problem when trying to get my present drive unit to be accepted ? I watched the Techniction use his computer that showed radio o,k. sat/nav o.k. c.d. o.k. Do you think the monitor could be knackered when trying to code an uncompatible sat/nav drive. Cheer's JoyLove

All MK2, MK3 and MK4 can support only colour or monochrome at one time.

Never both at the same time.

Navcoder plus a Resler interface can flip mono to colour.

Colour to mono is a road less travelled.

The OP should note, if you don't burn the OS disk properly (MODE2/FORM1) then you will brick the nav with this procedure and a wrong mode disc, and it will be unrecoverable. You have been warned.

Thanks joylove I have a different sat/nav drive now but it won't code to the monitor. I've kept your prvious note's which I will pass on to the indy who has an Autologic computer. Kind regards
