Hi all

I have a problem with the central locking on my 2000 318i se. The doors will lock using the remote key but will not unlock. If I put the key in the keyhole the same thing happens... it will lock but wont unlock except the drivers door.

When I press unlock on the key fob the interior lights come on but the doors don't open. Also, the button on the centre console does the same thing, it will lock but not unlock. The remote opens the boot ok.

I have been told that it is probably the ECU located behind the glovebox. Does anyone else have the same problem? How much would a second hand ECU cost? & would I be right in saying that the ECU has to be programmed to the car by a BMW specialist?

Any help would be appriciated... it can be very emabarrasing when the wife and kids have to jump over the seats to get out of the drivers door because the other 3 doors wont open!!!!

Many thanks.

I have a 2001 325i Touring that does the same thing.

On cooler days there seems to be no problems but let the sun shine for a couple of hours and "Click" but no unlock.

Have spoken to BMW and they suggest i bring it in for a check. A mate at BMW has suggested the General Module may be faulty, or in fact just one of the relays on the GM. When you unlock the car, you can actually hear the relay.

Would it be possible to replace the GM as a DIY job or should it be left up to the Pro's......:shifty:

If i do replace the GM, will the system have to be reprogramed?
