I'm hoping to install an IO Play bluetooth handsfree system in my 2000 316i. I've read that if the stereo does not have a 12v switched feed the bluetooth will drain the battery. I know that the newer >05 3 series do not have a switched feed, does anyone know if the older 3 series are the same?

On your year and model, it does. There will be a red wire going into the connector block with the word IGN written on it.
