This is probably a stupid question but I need an answer, on every oil change guide I have seen the oil filter cover has a 36mm hexagon on it to undo the cap. But on my 316 there is no hex and none on other 316s I have seen so how do I remove it?

You need a oil wrench dependant on the number of flutes and size of cap. Something like this:

Thanks mate any idea if a hex cap will fit once its off?

It will do, but it's not cheap. Holds the filter itself on the cap with a filtration stem.

Oil filter wrench, like big pliers, tenner or so from halfrauds, works i treat, i have one.
