When driving and air vents are open I can smell exhaust/oil fumes ,any ideas on why?

I just went to amend your thread title so that it complies with forum posting rules but it seems there is a discrepancy somewhere?

The picture of the car in your avatar is of an E36 but your title says E46 and in your vehicle details (drop down box) your car is mentioned as a compact but also states saloon.

Is your car like the one in the picture? If so you'll need to amend the vehicle details to say hatchback:thumbsup


It's possible an oil breather pipe may have come off or you have an exhaust leak?

Does the car still run okay?

Noticed a difference in fuel consumption?

tell me its a W reg 2000 yr 316i compact 1900cc engine is it E36 or E46?

Its a E36 as the aviator is my car .Have updated to hatchback,thanks for advice.

Could someone tell me if I took this to local non BMW Garage how much would it cost to have new breather pipe and Cam gasket fitted parts and labour,plus how much is new exhaust fitted .

I had a mate look at it today and the breather pipe is split,where is the best place to get a new one and how easy is it to fit any pics on here?

Get one from the dealers, they are only cheap, it's a really common pipe to split and go weak, I've replaced quite a few in my time.
