the oil light comes on just after i've started the car and goes out after a few seconds,the light is yellow not red any ideas.my car is an e46 330ci.

it means low oil level, common for failing though. how is your oil level?

As Deano said....
If your oil level is at the Max and the light is on, the sensor in the sump has failed. IIRC the sensor is about £95 from BMW......:eek

Then it is a faulty oil level sensor like Steve mentioned.
