Hello,

I have a problem with my pusher fan on e46 328ci 1999.When I turn the AC on the pusher fan kiks on full speed even when the engine is cold in the morning.
I have changed the coolant sensor and re-charged AC gas and checked all fuses and they seems ok.
Have anyone had this problem and what else i can check is there any speed relays etc that regulates the fan speed.

You see that module built into the shroud of the fan?

That is a built-in final stage (resistor/switch) and the signal to run is provided by the DME. My guess is that it is not functioning correctly.

Do you know if I can get it separatly or it comes with the fan.

I think it is part of the fan assembly, but give the dealer a call to see if they do a repair kit like the E39s :thumbsup

Just call dealer and they said that I have to buy complete fan and quote £280 just for part.
Any ideas

NeilP is probably right about the final stage unit, but when you say you changed the temp sensor, was it the one at the radiator outlet, as failure of this will cause the fan to run at full speed

yep the one in the bottom of the hose.

No relays. Did you get the fan with a new module fitted? If so and the problem still exists, it would seem that the DME is not sending correct signals to the fan.

So do i need reprogram DME or have to get new one

Best thing to do is get some diagnostics done on your car first to to confirm DME faults :thumbsup

The BMW said that everything fine but I know is not as I had a car for 5 years and this started about 2months ago.

Did they do a diagnostics?Did you get a printout?

Have you had the engine fault codes read AND the heater control fault codes read using a BMW specific scanner? If not both then this is what you need to do

I have notice that fan works even when AC not on but not full speed.Does it shoud work when AC off even why engine is could.Maybe someone had this problem and help me to sort this costy problem that i had for a while.Thanks

Was the engine live running data checked? especially the reading of the engine coolant temp sensor?
