Can anyone direct me to a visual "how-to" thread for replacing this sensor - I'm not familiar with the removal of the inlet manifold and dont know if it has to come off to get access to the sensor - any ideas?

What makes you think the sensor is at fault?

1999 E38 M52TU -replacing the throttle position sensor

Having reset all errors this "throttle position sensor" is the one that comes back. Have now taken the throttle off and done a visual inspection and clean - all looked ok so I re-installed - no joy engine goes straight to limp mode. I have now purchased a replacement from a local breaker and will fit next weekend. In the meantime - Does anyone know how to check the potentiometer resistance readings or replace the potentiometer inside?

You should expect to see a smooth fall and rise in resistance on the multimeter when the throttle is operated slowly opened and closed.

I don't have the pins to hand I'm afraid.
