Hi All,

I've just bought a 1999 Z3M and noticed in the owners handbook that it 'recommends' 97 octane fuel.

So does this mean that it's a bad thing to run it on normal unleaded or is it just that for 'enthusiastic driving' it's better with higher octane fuel?

Only ever use super in my M. They can be run on 95 octane fuel as it will adjust the ignition timing to avoid detonation. However, I'd rather just stick the correct fuel in to begin with - a M is not a car to skimp on!

Guess if I got caught out on a motorway run I'd stick in standard fuel but it hasn't happened yet.

Thanks Ian for clearing it up... Didn't want to risk damaging the engine so I guess it's super from now on enthusiastic driving or not :)

defo stick with the high octane...heard a few things like..."for evry 3 tanks off normal fuel..put 1 full tank off high octane"...so after a lot off investigating(on the net and askin tuning specialists)they all say the same thing!!stick with the highest octane you get!always.....think a mentioned last week that a few companys say tesco99 is the best...tho shells v.power is good as well.

Great... there's a Tesco half a mile away from where I live so that'll be handy for filling up the Zed given that the fuel is recommended by you guys.

get some pics up my friend, is it the M 3.2 evo engined one?
It's the 1999 version with the S50 engine so I assume by evolution you are referring to the S54 on later cars?

Metallic black with red/black interior. All seems original right down to the radio cassette. Couple of small car park dings but I'm getting them sorted on Monday.

I'm hoping for some sunshine today to take a couple of pictures and I'll upload them when I figure out how to do it.

Couple of pictures I've taken today. Just cleaned her and she's come up quite well given that the paintwork is over 10 years old!!

Haven't got round to V-Power yet but Tesco 99 seems to let her stretch her legs necely. I'll try V-Power next fill.

Ive used both , no differnce noted to be honest ( except in the wallet as V-power is way more expensive Ill stick with Tesco;s) , I have used normal unleaded a few times , you really do notice the diffence very lumpy feels like a missfire after about half tank ( Which isnt very far !!! ) :jaw-dropping
