Hi ,I really need a "how to" guide on how to replace my 523i oil cooler.
Has any one done the job?

E.g Can the job be done by just removing the bumper or does the whole rad have to come off also?

Any help would be appreciated ,desperate to sort this, cannot afford to take to garage
Regards Mark

I'm attempting this myself.

As I understand, these are the steps.

Remove clips for the fan shroud
Remove viscous fan by weding something inbetween the fan pulley nuts and putting a big spanner in the nut, give it a crack clockwise
remove rad and cables on both sides
take the whole lot out in one go
you can now get to the oil cooler

once you replace the oil cooler, you can top up the oil cooler fluid by pumping ATF into the fill plug on the front of the transmission

you'll need to get a hand pump. the one I'm buying looks like a bicycle tyre pump but twice the diameter and a bit longer

you pump little bits of fluid in until the fluid starts to overflow

make sure the car is supported/jacked up at the back and the front otherwise the oil level will be incorrect
