Hi to you all from a newbie.

I've just replaced my oil cooler (split pipe) on 523i with the help of the forum posts. With the car level I filled the sump (lifetime oil in my case) which took 1.5 litres.

My car is always parked on an incline (10 to 15 degrees) facing downhill and I expected some oil to be syphoned out as a result of said incline.

I've not been able to properly check the oil level yet but I wondered is 1.5 litres typical for a top up after an oil cooler change?

Thanks in anticipation

Sorry,

I should have mentioned that, only 250ml was left in the cooler.

The leak was from behind the 90º bend in the cooler pipes just near where the flexi cooler pipes join the block. I only found where the leak was by removing the cooler (still attached to the transmission) and running the car. A steady flow could then be seen coming from the pipe where the plastic shroud obscured it. Before that it looked like the 'O' rings had failed - I replaced these before removing the cooler to remove that from my testing.

Thanks
