Hi,

My E39 has what i assume to be the "standard" speaker setup, two in the front doors and two in the parcel shelf.

I have all my door cards off, and just been thinking, if i bought the upgrade front speakers ie:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E39-5-SERIES-96-03-FRONT-DOOR-SPEAKERS-GENUINE-OEM-/270544581952?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3efdb6b540

Could i just buy the third speaker and plug it in or would i need to replace something on the headunit too ?

Same for the back doors - they have holes for little speakers but i don't know how these are plugged in.

Front door third speaker:

I have a mahoosive bass boost in the boot wall so not too fussed about the full M5 subwoofer setup.

TBH you'd be trying to add a fart to a wind tunnel fitting those. Those paper Nokias will be just as rubbish as the basic BMW setup, chosen on price not performance.

The little ported enclosures are very sweet, but if you already have those, go for some decent aftermarket speakers.

If you have a lot of bass in the boot, the mid range Alpines are a good choice for good sound quality, but they lack the bass of an MB Quart.
