Hi, was wondering if anyone could tell me what is involved with sticking an M3 engine in a 318ti Sports Compact.
But just out of curiosity how hard is it?
Not straight forward :rofl mine was made a little easier by going half way and fitting an E6 325i engine first (no for sale - see Ebay For Sale thread)
325 engine gave loads more torque and power for very little cost. M3 has given me even more of both - but much more expensive.
There is a lot involved going from 318 - M3:
New engine :lol
Possibly new gearbox - although my M3 is running a 318 box perfectly - great ratios for rallying. Max speed about 115mph but great in gear acceleration.
New clutch
New front struts and brakes (ideally rears too)
New DIY exhaust
New subframe
Move battery to boot
New radiator
Fit oil cooler
Change dashboard, ECU etc...
Very pleased with mine, goes like stink but a major conversion by most standards...
