Please can someone help me.

I recently bought a colour dye/paint off a leather car seat specialist. The code BMW gave me was M5SH. The problem is that it is a different colour to my leather seats. I obtained the colour code by giving my local BMW dealer my chasis code.

The company who sold me the paint have said that they mixed it to the code but when I applied it it is a different colour! The colour of My 8 series is Barbados Green with a very light Silver Grey leather interior.

How would I find out the correct colour code if the one I have is incorrect?

I have now added an image of the problem.

Also, where would I find a piece of leather on the car which I can trim off and send to them to colour match if necessary?

Your help would be most appreciated as you can imagine I'm a bit unhappy at the result.

I think there is a kit that you do the final colour mix as leather ages etc, you get a colour supplied thats an approx match and you do the final match by adding in a solution to lighten or darken ..

one of the guys over here Ireland did it ..read here

Hi Ark Angel,

Are you sure that your leather interior hasn't faded over time with the sun and weather???

I am sure that the leather dye colour is correct from the company you bought it from and your leather could be faded.

I have uploaded an image of the leather behind the plastic on the headrest and although it is not a very good image you can clearly see that the colour is identical to the rest of the leather in the car (aprt from the dirty bit).

try to cut a swatch from under the seat, there's usually a bit extra after the fixings. they dont need much of a sample. sorry too here you've had probs.

Best place to take a snip of leather for matching is usually under the back seat cushion. I've used Gliptone for touch ups both for my 750iL and 330 Ci, and they've been spot on for colour each time. However its very important to make sure the dye is thoroughly mixed...as it separates out with time

Or if you find easier, pull the front of the rear seat bottom and out pops the seat.

Underneath that there is some excess leather where the leather has been stapled to the seat.

Hope this is useful.

My car is Barbados Green and I have noticed that other cars on line have the same colour interior.

Does anyone know the colour name of the leather that was used in the Barbados Green 1998 E31?

I'm now totally confused!

I have sent a sample to Dynamix and Ryan has told me that it does not match any colour on file but he will mix it for me.

The leather behind the plastic bits is the same colour as the rest of the leather so it does not look like it has been re-coloured.

The official colour via the VIN number is Light Silver/Grey but is not the colour of the seats.

When I bought the car it had only covered 58,000 miles and the rest of the interior looks like it has just come out the factory.

Has anyone any idea what colour it could be or what has happened?

The weird thing is that when I have viewed other Barbados Green E31's they look like they have the same colour leather.

I'm guessing some hard core, cleaner or treatment has been applied to the seats in the past... but then the hidden bits match don't they ...baffled

A big thank you to Ryan at Dynamix who has managed to send me a matching pot to my leather!

Thank you Ryan for a speedy and very helpful service.

Although I still haven't a clue what colour it is.

My '98 in Barbados Green has Light Parchment leather.

It does look the same as in your pics.

On mine the dash and door panels have contrating brown trim.

I got a Scuff Master kit which does come with a toner so you can adjust the colour for fade.
