Hi

New on here, recently purchased a 1998 318IS, shes a lovely car. Just has a few tempremental problems! I have to admit to very limited knowledge of cars. so please be gentle!!

The heater control panel has a life of its own. occasionally working fine and other time, it has no display, but the heaters still work! is this a usual problem ? any ideas on where i go with fixing it.

The passenger side window also occasionly refuses to work. I can here the motor clicking when i press the switch but the window doesnt go down! other times it works perfectly.

and last but not least, every 2/3 days she decides not to want to start and it takes a couple of attempts and a fair amount of revving to get her going. Other times she runs just fine.

Any ideas or help on any of the above would be appreciated

Standard advice on the starting problem, probably cam or crank sensor. Probably worth getting a garage to read the diagnostic codes to save you spending money on parts you don't need!

The window sounds like the motor is playing up, probably a dead patch on the motor or brushes are worn. New motor is around £144 from main dealer :frown

As for running problems you can start by checking for any air leaks first from split hoses, split vacuum pipes, split engine breather pipes or split induction pipes, also any valves and diaphragms that may have failed. Any air that is sucked into the engine should travel past the Air flow meter otherwise it will give you a running fault.

Would also be a idea to get the fault codes read for the Engine, any good BMW specialist or main dealer will be able to do this for you
