Hello to all great forum sorry my first post is wanting info

right i have bought a 328i tourer on a 97 r reg fully loaded for £500 the previous owner had already done the headgasket and said he used it for a couple of weeks then started to leak water out of the water pipe on the back of the head so parked it up.

So anyway i purchased thinking how hard can it be well after much cursing swearing, and dodgy postions with mirrors and torches i can confirm the water is coming out off the head ( it looks like it has lifted) so started pulling the rocker box off coils etc had a gander at the headbolts and 6 out of the 14 are loose and wont tighten up never had this before its almost as if the threads are stripped in the block,

so my question is this fixable or is the engine scrap what do i do know thank you very much in advance and sorry again for the long post

The engine block is alloy, it has got too hot hence the bolts have pulled the thread out the block :frown (whether previous owner cooked it?(e.t.c)

3 choices, remove head and have block Heli-coiled, we have successfully before,

get a new block,

get new engine.

oh dear well thank you for your rapid replys

what sort of money am i looking at
1. for a new block
2. an engine
3. to have all studs heli coiled i can remove head etc my self

also what money is the car worth when done cheers

Engines should fetch between 400 and 600 quid. I recently purchased a 2.5tds engine for my touring for £525 inc delivery from ebay.

right i will try them thanx

i have been offeered a few 325i 24valve engines a 323 engine( which i belives is a 2.5) e39 3.5 v8 but no 2.8 so what is involved with changing to these are the engine looms seperate so all i would have to do is swap engine loom and ecu or is it not as simple as that
