Looking for some help to diagnose why its burning about 1 litre of oil every 1,000 miles. Know that compression is low on one middle cylinder but how can I determine if it is passing the rings or valves and if it is terminal to the engine longterm without fixing. Mileage is 103,000 at the moment.
Cheers

The cylinder which is down on compression...............squirt a bit of engine oil down the spark plug hole......and then retest the compression, if its better/higher- you have probs with the piston ring.

but too be honest..........a litre every 1000 miles is not bad, beemers are a bit thirsty mate.

What grade of oil are you using?
