Alright chaps i have a 96 e36 auto touring, the problem i am having is the throttle position sensor i think! When the sensor is connected the car runs very rough on idle, when the tps is disconnected the problem seems to go, but i have noticed the car seems to be pulling of in 3rd gear, also when i press the kickdown nothing happens.. Could this be the tps? I have ordered one for tommoz but dont want to waste the cash is its not that!!

The first thing you should do is get the fault codes read for the engine and gearbox, this should highlight any problems and if there are any codes then they should be cleared and then the car driven till it plays up again and then the codes be read again

thanks for the reply! i went and brought the tps today for £47, and its sorted the problem.
