I had the same problem with my mums old escort years ago. Doesn't matter what we used it was stuck solid. We ended up smashing it to bits to get it off in the end!
I know that's not what you want to hear but we had to!

Good news is i have figured a way to take off the steering lock and it was pretty simple and posibly a oversight by bmw but worked in my favour.

i had the same problem with mine mate what i ended up doing was putting a small bend in the end of the paperclip. the end you put into the barrel then when i located the release pin twiusted the paperclip and it freed it. it diod take me about an hour on the one in car but once changed it the new one come back out easier. i took the new out after fitting just to see how easy it was

if you still carnt im afraid its the whole steering lock couling off. remove the plastics, steering wheel. youl see a silver/gfrey shroud round the shaft. on the top is two snap bolts with no head obvisously. make a gash in them with a sharp metal chisel then tap them round till they come out. replace the whole bottom halft including steering lock with a one from scrappy.

you could get new bolts of you could tap the ones you took out back round

Let your missus or someone else have a go. Sometimes these things are like crosswords and you have to take a step back or ask someone else who isn't as driven to get it sorted!
