I was under the car yesturday adjusting my ride hieght on the rear and i was having a poke around the diff looking for any signs of wear and i came across the front mounts and where the bolt goes into the car there seems to be no rubber left.

Would a failed one of these cause a clunk when shifting up and when you let the car coast and then go back on power i get a clunk?

I know its a crap explanation

Yes it would, the "torque reaction" makes the diff and carrier move/twist, so if the rubber bushes are knackered then the carrier would knock on the bolt/washer/chassis.

are there any guides on how to replace those bad boys? Mine don't look any better, went through the MOT fine, but I reckon they'll need doing soon.

I recall seeing one somewhere, it requires the rear diff subframe completely dropping. :frown
im guessing thats a pig of a job to do

That sounds like a massive pain in the ass. I managed to lose a reasonable amount of blood just changing a Lambda sensor this morning. Dropping the rear sub-frame could be the end of me.
