Hi guys, I posted a thread a few months ago asking about a tapping sound coming from my engine when I fire it up from cold, I have since decided that it is my vanos unit at the front of the engine :frown I was wandering if this should be something to worry about, or if it's just going to make it a bit noisy in the morning?

Other than that the engine seems as fit as a butchers dog, but any advice will be very welcome.

are you sure its the vanos? when was the last time it had an oil change?
gunky oil can make the lifters a bit tappy till the engine warms?

I'm not 100% on it being the vanos as it's hard to start the engine and put a screwdriver to it at the same time on your own. I'll recruit someone to help me tomorrow.

It was just after the last change that it started tapping. I did it as soon as I got the car, and from the way the filter disintegrated when I took it out, I dont think it was done for a long time before that.
