Im hoping for some help :-

Went to have a loud exhaust problem investigated last week, ATS said that the back box was useless and that the exhaust manifold to centre section only had 3 studs, the 4th being broken, which would need to be sorted at some point.....

Changed the back box and the exhaust is much quieter, still quite loud from start up, but does quieten down quite a bit after a few mins

Anyway, decided today to get the stud drilled out at a local "non" bmw garage, they reckoned that the blow was at the manifold, however, they couldnt find the blow, but, did say that it was not leaking at the downpipe/front section joint (where there are only 3 studs)

I have been reading about problems with the manifolds on 318is's, I am assuming this could also apply to my vehicle (reg 15/9/95)

Should I take the car to a BMW specialist before spending on on a manifold ?

Also any help on where to source a manifold would be appreciated

If it is Blowing from the Manifold it will go Quieter as the Engine heats up as heat causes expansion. Is there any Carbon type marks around the Manifold to suggest this?

There were no visible marks that I could see, Im just hoping that it turns out to be the fact its held on with 3 bolts

Local BMW specialist will be sorting the bolt issue tomorrow, so hopefully then Ill know if there is any other problem too

These are common for cracking the manifolds where they are welded to the flange that bolts to the engine :frown
Get the stud sorted first and take it from there :thumbsup
