hi i have a weard squeeling noise form my bmw on start up a very simular noise to the fan belt sliping but its not as i have a new belt put on it. it could be a possable alt tentioner? or would it be water pump? would like to know your thoughts and if you have had a simular problem and what you did to sort it

could be a bearing on the tensioner wheel

On my 318is I used to go through belts for a past time. I think due to poor quality belts:confused

Did you check your pulleys and guides e.t.c for noise/stiffness or rough rotation when you had the belt off?

no i didnt compleatly forgot to do that. is it worth takeing the belt off and haveing a look?

i reckon it might be.you don't want one seizing and throwing the belt when you're miles from home
