Looking for some assistance. Suspect a fault with my DME here. Number 2 and number 4 cylinders not firing. Getting power to all coils. Found both coils to be leaking/burnt out. Fitted new ones but they're still not firing. >14v (with engine running) to both coils as with all the other cylinders, so no probs there. DME relay replaced to no avail.New spark plugs fitted and gapped. The 2 affected appeared a little burnt at the electrode also. The biggest head scratcher is that with my cracked carsoft it shows OK status when i carry out a scan on my DME. Not sure if thats down to my carsoft being a cracked Chinese import. Any assistance would be grately appreciated. DME is Siemens MS40. I think it'll need replaced. Any repair ideas? Please help!! Cheers..

I would recommend that you get the DME scanned with a dealer level scanner- Autologic or simliar, any decent BMW specialist will have one.

See what the codes come back as, if any.

But you may have a dudd ECU, get the codes read first mate.

If you need to get the ECU checked then I know a specialist that will check your ECU out for 35 squids and if its faulty and they repair it they will waver the test fee. we use them all the time and are A1.

Thanks for the replies. Did have a check for water ingress. As soon as i removed the dme i could smell electrical burnt out, PCB, capacitor or the like, can't open the Dme up fully. The circuit boards seem to be soldered down so i can't see the underside where the chips etc are located or wherever the burn out is. I have seen a DME on e-bay. I'm not sure if it's compatible though due to a slight part no. difference. If you can let me know if you think it would work without issues. My current DME part number is MS40.1 5WK9 002. This one seems to be 5WK9 003. Does that make a difference? Once again thanks for the assistance and sorry to be a pain in the arse.

5WK9 003 from what I can find is a e34 520i Vanos EWSII 1995 DME, so it wouldn't work with yours due to the EWSII
