A friend has a 5dr e36 318 with quiet a strange electrical prob, the whole right handside of the car lost lighting, no rear side light, no front side light, dash lights gone, only right handside window switch lit, headlights are all fine but all others on right handside have gone, changed fuse and it keeps popping, hads anyone got any ideas, hes rippin his hair out??

You need to check the wires that run from the vehicle into the Boot lid as these are prone to breaking and causing all sorts of electrical faults:frown

Would a short in in the cabling in the boot cause lighting to go, i thought it would only mess about with central locking and brake lights because it has boot spoiler with brakelight bar.

We've seen it create all kinds of problems, It'll take 5 minutes to check and eliminate:thumbsup

You've also got headlight wiring in there for the numberplate lights. If you pull out the left hand side of the boot lining/carpet (not the floor, the quarter pannel section), im pretty sure there's a plug behind there for the boot wiring loom, unplug it, try the fuse again, if it doesn't pop, your problem's narrowed to the boot wiring.
