as above ive got to remove the manifold to source a blow and know its tight down there so before i go attacking it are there any easy solutions for removal as so far ive only ever removed it with the head

To make life easier for yourself, you could undo the rhs engine mount nut and lift the engine up from that side..........that will give you more than enough clearance.

that was one plan of action but im still unsure on whether that would give the clearance past the steering gear

done many of these........only had to remove juggle the steering component out of the way once....don't know why we had trouble with that one.

occasionally we lifted the whole engine off the mounts on both sides carfefully when things go tight.
