  1. BMW 5 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 5 Series
Hi all, My car went in for a service two days ago and the techs reported an oil leak. Their investigation lead them to conclude that the crankcase breather had failed and that oil had been getting into the intake manifold then eventually the intercooler. Their fix for this is a $6000 repair...

Hi, I have just purchased a E70 3.0SD Msport. I also have a E61 pre LCI 535d msport which I have changed the Crankcase breather for the newer Vortex model. I have looked on Real OEM and seen the Crankcase breather on the engine in the E70 is a totally different looking part from my older E61...

I recently repaired a turbo for a client and once refitted to the car, an oil drip was noticed right at the centre of the turbo. Turbo was removed and checked on the balancer with 5bar oil pressure. No oil leaks noticed. Could it be to do with the oil breather or does anyone have some pointers...

2006 E91 320d - Today I changed both the EGR stat and the main stat. The EGR one was faulty but I think the main one was actually ok although it got replaced anyway. While I had bits off I also cleaned out the EGR valve and fixed the vacuum feed hose. After a 5 mile run it is now behaving a lot...
  5. BMW 5 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 5 Series
Dear Bimmer fans, can you please tell me which breather is more suitable for an E60 525d, 2006? The old one "filter roll" or the new one the vortex type? Please specify why? I know many BMW independent mechanics who are insistingly suggesting that the old filter is the better and they are...

Hi all, I am experiencing some difficulty with my E90, M47 120kW, 2006. The problem is excessive smoke (not oil) on the cranckase brather hose which goes into the engine. I recently, maybe 2k miles ago changed the oil, oil filter and air filter. While I was taking the engine plastics of from my...

so basically, they recommend changing breather in intervals as it clogs up, and even tho I bought part 11127809512, but I need also to update the pipe 11127809513, (11 on the picture) that costs close to 70 bucks, as it was redesigned, but honestly, I rather know if there are any alternative...

Ok, so as I was able find out, older models of M57 engine had (up to 2005. if not mistaken) a little filter in the engine breather. Newer ones should have that vortex type, so I checked mine and it is completely empty!:confused No filter and no vortex?? I searched Ebay, typed in additional part...

Hi all Yesterday I took the engive cover off my BMW as I wanted to investigate why the belt was squealing, seemed like the water pump was leaking so will get that changed. I also noticed the black hose (part number 7803848), I believe this is the air filter breather pipe was cracked on 1 end...

Hi everyone, Recently I had my 320d E90 to the indie mechanics for a service. I asked him to change the oil breather from the loo roll type to the vortex type, however he said that the oil breather was not necessary, and that the best thing to do was to take it out completely. He said that...

Hello folks.....recently bought a low miles 08 635d. The usual garage stamps which are just stamps so I'm slowly going through the bits that need servicing. Is the crank shaft breather job a diy job and is it necessary to do at 45k miles?

Hi All, Tomorrow I'm changing both EGR and main thermostat, removing EGR and intake manifold for a clean (was thinking plusgas for EGR and jetwash for inlet manifold?) Then I'm changing air filter and replacing air filter. Now, is there anything else I should pop off and clean like hoses...

What's the next probable cause for oil loss on a 150hp 320d? And how do I check for it? New turbo, new breather, no leaks at all and I'm topping it up with about a litre per 4000 miles. Comments about oil consumption on these engines is also welcome!

Hi all. First post on here. Been looking into changing my breather on my 330d car has 97k on it and I have been told that it should be done. I changed one previously on a 320d (05 plate) and it looked like a small plastic funnel inside a housing. . . . . There was no sign of blockage or any...
