    BMW Garages and Parts Retailers
I'd get the fluid level checked - hard shifting is often caused by low fluid levels so you may have a leak somewhere.
  2. CIC or NBT, confirmation needed please.

    Auto Electrical Forum
Not sure - your best bet might be to put your VIN number into and then see what iDrive parts were installed. As I understand it, the interface between CIC and early NBT is pretty hard to distinguish bar the snazzier graphics of the latter, but those graphics are rather curtailed on...
  3. BMW 2009 320d - Dual Zone - only warm/tepid air from blower

BMW 3 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 3 Series
The heater pump if it's what I think it is, is fairly obvious/accessible and you can probably tell if it's running by feeling for vibrations when the car's running. I seem to recall there's a couple of pumps side by side on the passenger side inner wing area?
  4. Crack in my scuttle! (water issue)

    Auto Electrical Forum
Does your car have a sunroof and are the drains clear? Drain pipes run down the A pillars where they go into a metal pipe down through the floor pan. If they block at the bottom, the water builds up and starts weeping out at the bottom of the a-pillar, then down through the pedal area onto the...
  5. BMW 2009 320d - Dual Zone - only warm/tepid air from blower

BMW 3 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 3 Series
I assume your engine and EGR stats are OK - ie the car's actually getting up to running temp and therefore has heat to give? Welcome by the way - I've got a 2004 X5, so I obviously approve of your car choice (not that my approval or otherwise matters in the slightest)!
  6. Warranty saves the day again

BMW 3 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 3 Series
Yeah, and you don't get the sinking feeling every time you talk to the dealer if you know the warranty's standing behind it. Nothing wrong with the warranty IMHO especially if you're on the monthly DD so the cover doesn't degrade over time/mileage - arguably it gets better and better value...
  7. What is this wheel style called?

    Community Help
What are the markings on the alloys themselves - do they have part numbers and do they say who they were made by? OEM is usually made by someone else - for example the 118 style winter wheels for my E63 are made by BBS but are 'official' BMW, but if 'proper' they'll have a BMW part number which...
  8. Crack in my scuttle! (water issue)

    Auto Electrical Forum
Actually, I've just re-read your original post - I think you need to check the door vapour barrier as a detatched vapour barrier will classically give you the symptoms you describe. With the window up, pour a kettle full of cold water down the outside of the window along its full length. If you...
  9. Crack in my scuttle! (water issue)

    Auto Electrical Forum
Ordinarily yes - theres a half a dozen plastic hex shaped jobbies that are , I think, 12mm. You turn each through 90 degrees which releases them. There's a bit of faffing to get it all lined up but it's not too involved. You need quite a lot of water in the scuttle to get to the point of wiring...
  10. Crack in my scuttle! (water issue)

    Auto Electrical Forum
I'm struggling to visualise this a a bit... What model and year are we talking about? When you say 'removed' the filters do you mean just the paper elements or do you mean the plastic housing that they sit in? Based on E6X models, the paper pollen filter elements sit on big plastic housings...
  11. E46 320D Clunk underneath

BMW 3 Series Forum - Technical Talk on the BMW E46
Sounds more like diff mounts or possibly rear subframe mounts if it's clonking that badly from the rear. RTAB bushes can cause similar noises clonks as can failing propshaft guibos. Failed propshaft support bearing would normally give you running noise (whining etc) rather than just isolated...
  12. Issue with aftermarket heated mirrors

BMW 5 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 5 Series
Yeah, and they all bronze or fail eventually, so even buying second hand doesn't guarantee longevity. At £600 for the pair on my E53, I aborted mission and just put non-auto dipping OEM glass in instead. Heating works fine and being a bit higher up, you don't get dazzled so much anyway.
  13. Any free hacks for my 02 E46???

BMW 3 Series Forum - Technical Talk on the BMW E46
Right, only one thing for it, I shall have to dig out the brochure from the open cast filing system in my office to see whether this was standard or not. Bear with me...
  14. Idrive help wanted

Car Audio, ICE, Car Alarms, Mobile Phones, I-Drive
Call Rusty - his website has his mobile no and he was certainly very helpful to chat to when I did mine. Unfortunately, in terms of being helpful here, mine was a USB job so I'm a bit out of road so to speak!

BMW 5 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 5 Series
Second Snowblind's thoughts above that you now probably need to get this to a ZF specialist to look at. Initial thoughts are a clutch pack or mechatronic issue but those are both horrendously broad areas...
  16. Run Flat's versus Non-Run Flat's

    General BMW Discussions
As above - also for a 635d - much improved without run flats, and I also changes all four over at once.

If you put your VIN number into you can get that same diagram and the part numbers that correspond to the illustration numbers.
  18. No sound out of radio

BMW 5 Series - Tech Talk For All Gen Of 5 Series
And juxtaposing this with your other post re flat battery - we need to rule out whether the odd behaviour has resulted in the flat battery, or whether the flat battery has caused the odd behaviour. So I would suggest putting it on charge (after having done the fuse box tour above) to try to rule...
  19. New bloke looking for his first BMW

Welcome! Here's a link to the contemporary brochure for 5 series touring of that vintage which should answer all of your questions about what spec comes with what: Extendable thigh pad rest means 'sports'...
  20. question for modified odometer on BMWs

BMW ECU Tuning and Standalone Tuning
I'm sure it's doable that someone could modify it without it showing. I suppose you could compare various other data points - for example, the ECU stores the total engine uptime hours, so if it had done hundreds of thousands of hours but only a few miles you might wonder. Trouble is, it would...
