Hi all have had this car for a number of years. E39 530ise auto on a 'X' plate year of manufacture (2000)
Got the three lights of death a couple of years ago and got module fixed by BBaReman (2 year warranty). Lasted for a year then the traction control light came on. BBaReman fixed under warranty and then fixed again under warranty a few months later.
Last year the day after the mot the traction control light came on but as it did't affect the car I left it.
MOT has changed now and all warning lights are classed as failure if lit.
Sent unit off to ECU Testing who said it was a write-off and could not supply new unit at that time.

Anyway got new unit from Germany on Ebay. Same product number etc and also BMWtools with a Cable-Shack usb interface.
Am running INPA and NCSExpert which connect to car no problem read and clear faults etc.
Unfortunately NCSExpert will not code the new module. It reads from it but will not code to it. The three lights of death stay on. And INPA will not connect to it.
Now I've spent a couple of weeks looking for the solution to no avail !
I am now near the point of scrapping a perfectly good 5 series which because of this will be beyond economical repair. Not on road as no tax, insurance or MOT.

It has had new disks and brakes all round, new radiator, new water pump, new alternator and other bits and pieces which amounts to lots of dosh but has been my pride and joy for a number of years.

Does anyone have any idea why this new module will not code/program to my car or is there anyone in the Bristol/Bath area can come to my house and code it for a fee?

Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming.

What are the fault codes you are getting?
It might be due to a VIN number mismatch.

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Okay in INPA when trying to read the Chassis ->DSC Error is

SYS-0012: IDENTIFICATION ERROR Program will be stopped.

Interestingly in NCSExpert when I read the codes for EWS it gives Vin as WDADT62040CE****** (****** are correct in all cases) which is correct, but, in IKE and KMB the code is WBAAA00000CE****** which is incorrect.
GM, SA and VN are the same in all cases.

How do I correct this and would this be the reason why the DSC ecu won't code?

That's normal, for some reason a lot of the DSC modules start the VIN number with just the "placeholder" text.

sys-0012 is a fault code from INPA, not the DSC unit.

Thanks TheEnd, but now slightly confused.Don't all the vin numbers need to match? Is that why the Lights on this new module stay lit?

If so how do I do that?
Is there an error code list for INPA?

Gosh its been a long couple of weeks as I've moved house while trying to sort all this as well!!

The short VIN matches, and that's the important bit.

There will be a PDF in one of your Ediabas or INPA folders that is a guide for INPA, and it'll list the different program problems.
It could be a non functioning DSC/ABS unit, INPA not set up properly, the wrong type of ABS selected etc.

The code is generally saying it can't connect to the DSC unit.

Many many thanks, I'll have another go tomorrow INPA works fine when I put the old ABS unit back on, speaks quite happily with it.
So the prob could be the new abs unit which i've had for a couple of months now due to the house move. Hmmm.... Ebay eh!
