    Hi all.

    I have purchased a USB cable to read the OBD port of my E46. I also have the software and have dual booted my laptop to hold Windows XP along with the original Windows 7.

    I am installing all BMW gear onto my XP Partition.

    I have INPA installed, and from what I can tell it connects to the car OK.

    I am now at "Step 12" in the process - getting DIS to detect Diag Head.

    I have set vm, nsw, and dsm all to on and am now running the APITEST. Unfortunately here is where I get stuck as it gives me the error NET-9000.

    Can anyone please help me get past this stage? I am at my wits end with the whole process.

    UPDATE 11/10/2011

    Since this I have completely uninstalled EDIABAS, INPA, VMWare and all other version of the software. I have attempted to use Carsoft 6.5. This installed OK but it couldn't connect to the car, and the error message was similar to the API fault (seemingly to me anyhow).

    I have since installed INPA again with EDIABAS. I have tried to connect to the car, and while I seem to be able to read the Transmission faults, I do not get a Battery or Ignition circle turning black.

    I am getting IFH-0009 when I try to read the Airbag or any other section, but what does this mean?

    Does this mean I have a faulty install, a faulty Cable or do I have the wrong one? I can't find a 20-Pin connector under the bonnet, but maybe I am cack at looking.

    I really need to get this setup as I need to find out why the Airbag Light is on before the MOT. I already paid a mechanic once (mobile one who is a good mechanic usually) but he couldn't find an exact answer to what it is, so I wanted to get the codes and speak to the guys on here.

    Please can anyone help me??

    i think yav corrupted it all over the place...

    ide role back ya xp to initial install and start again just with the inpa setup..

    depending on wot interface cable ya using and if its a cheaper vagcom cable? ya wont get the ignition on/ off indication...

    realistically INPA is all ya need for full diags capabability, not as pretty as DIS etc but its uber simple if ya keep it simple to start with...

    INPA has to be set to OBD aswell if ya using USB interfaces..
    330i sport a big chunk of berlin...

    Thanks for that. I may format my XP installation and start again with INPA like you said. I have also read somewhere that there is a setting I could change in the COM Advanced Settings??

    The cable I have is above.

    usually they are just modded vagcom cables at a premium price i know vagcoms the ignition off/ on function dosent work dosent bother most ppl...

    USB you have ta change a couple of settings on the port usually to get it to perform properly, think you have to increase the bit per second flow rate or summat i can't remember..

    ask simon "slowtech" he will tell ya.....

    ya need INPA/ediabas to fully function and fired up first before you have any hope of getting DIS to work aswell...

    Cheers. I have found information about changing FIFO settings, but cannot find them. Will see if Simon has any answers that could help me. Thanks again

    Yep you just need bigger fifos. After the USB-RS232 install is complete make a file called serial.reg containing all of the follwing text and double click it to add to registry.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Serial]
    "ErrorControl"=dword:00000000
    "Group"="Extended base"
    "Start"=dword:00000001
    "Tag"=dword:00000001
    "Type"=dword:00000001
    "RxFIFO"=dword:00000008
    "ForceFifoEnable"=dword:00000001
    "PermitShare"=dword:00000000
    "LogFifo"=dword:00000000
    "TxFIFO"=dword:00000008
    Then run C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\OBD\OBDSetup.exe to confirm registry entry happened.

    Had a brief conversation with GazNiki and he's getting the following error, I need to check with my sw but iirc its an INPA compatibility issue and doesn't affect code reading?

    In that case he's probably got DME and EGS access but either need to short pins 7&8 on his VAGCOM lead or use the 20 pin port if fitted, depending on model year and fitment. As usual, if you have the 20 pin socket, you must use it to access all modules.

    I can't seem to find the 20-Pin connector under the bonnet. That's not to say I am cack at looking though. Where exactly should this be?
