Are you running XP? Your car is 100% OBD2 compliant. What make of code reader did you buy?

To run Carsoft, you need a Carsoft interface rather than a generic one.

OBD2 is just a standard. Both your cars are OBD2 compatible so you just need find the compatible software to use with your scanner to retrieve the error codes.

There seems to be a recurring problem with XP in that the Ports option disappears from Device Manager. I'll post up later on how to get them back.

You also need to install a Virtual Port to get the computer to recognise a USB device running on what is (effectively) a COM port. Carsoft etc depends on COM ports.

I run an ELM327 OBD2 tool with XP & Carsoft. Took a while to set up, and you need an appropriate version of Carsoft.

    More later.

    Right...

Chick Start, left click on "My Computer", then go to properties. On the advanced tab, click on "Environment Variables" down the bottom.

On the bottom half of that window, you'll have "System Variables". Click on New, then enter the following text:

    DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES

Set the value to 1, and then click OK to exit everything.

Back to start, right click on My Computer, then go to Manage. This opens Computer management. Click on Device Manager on the left hand side. Click on View, then "Show Hidden Devices".

You will now have Ports (COM & LPT) listed.

Hope this helps. More to follow re. Virtual Ports later.
