    Dear All

    I have 07/2000 E46 316i 1.9 Sedan M43 Europe Left hand drive N;

    I got the Below P errors (anybody have a document or a link that lists all the M43 engine DME P errors and description?) :
    P0125 signal oxygen sensor before catalytic converter
    P0141 Oxygen-sensor control, control limit

    P0171 please refer to vehicle service manual!

    And Below Description of the Car Behavior:

    1-When I start my car the first time in the morning the RPM move up and down and the car vibrate around 10 seconds (later I will provide a movie);
    2-The car performance is very bad specially when driving up; (nothing change when moving the gear to sport mode)
    3-Sometimes when driving up instated of the car going faster when moving from speed 3 to 4 the RPM goes down and car goes dead.

    Can anybody help me solving the problem?

    Thanks in Advance and Best Regards

    P0171 - most common causes are dirty fuel filter/injectors, vacuum leaks or a faulty mass air flow sensor.

    Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold, vacuum hoses etc.

    If that isnt the issue, then unplug the MAF and take the car for a run to see how performance is affected; if the car runs better then you need a new maf - and if you do replace it, make sure its a genuine bosch one because the cheaper alternatives are useless.

    If that fails i would then resort to a new fuel filter and start thinking about having injectors removed and cleaned.

    Here are the codes :

    before you start thinking about buying a new one, make sure you unplug it first and see if the car runs better, i would hate to see you waste money on a part that doesnt solve your problem. im not sure how much bmw charge but heres one on ebay:

    NEW GENUINE BOSCH MASS AIR FLOW METER MAF BMW 316i 318i 1796cc 1995cc SALE NOW | eBay

    you can also try cleaning it with electrical contact cleaner first to see if that helps:

    Halfords | Halfords Electrical Contact Cleaner 400ml

    btw, make sure if you do find your maf to be faulty and do plan on trying to clean it, make sure you only use electrical contact cleaner, anyhting that leaves a residue eg carb cleaner will only make it worse!!!!!!!!!

    ps, if the maf unplugged doesnt improve things, youve most likely got a vacuum leak somewhere, like split vacuum hoses or manifold gasket etc.
