    Hi,

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Can anyone recommend a tool for reading fault codes and re-setting the oil change distance on a BMW 320TD compact (a 3 door turbo diesel version of the 3 series with automatic transmission) first registered in February 2002 and built to European specification (Left hand drive)?

This vehicle has a standard 16 pin rectangular OBD socket (the round sockets found in some earlier BMWs are NOT present) but I'm not certain what protocol it uses (some folk say that there were several protocols in use by BMW at the time).

I'm also not sure whether everything can be accessed via a standard OBD tool or whether there are BMW-specific functions that need a more specialist tool.

I'm happy to buy a hand-held OBD tool or a computer interface cable and software.

    Will

For software approach you need a USB-OBD2 (aka VAGCOM) lead with pins 7 and 8 soldered internally.
