I put my new interior in my E46 Compact today and the light has come on, do i need to have the ECU reset or can it be a fault?

Hard to say if there is a fault or not, but I am pretty certain you will have to get it read/coded depending on what you mean by interior. How much have you done/replaced? Any coded parts in the equation? seatbelt pretensioner? passenger occupancy?

You will need to get the codes read with diagnostic equipment I'm afraid L16YD L, there's no way to read them yourself otherwise to find out what the code(s) are.

I had a similar problem on my old 318 when I took my passenger seat out, it seems that whenever you disconnect any airbags they bring up an error that has to be reset by computer. I used car soft. I reset it and it has not come back. If you have changed the whole interior you will probably have an error code for every airbag you have replaced.

Did you disconnect your battery before you started dismantling Lloyd?

I am guessing he didnt, as I seem to remember him saying he had the ignition on while one of the seats was out (oops).

sorry, that wasn't very sypathetic. get the codes read and reset them. You would have to be really unlucky to have a genuine fault. Personally I would say the OBD is sulking about what you did and it should be relatively easy to sort by a decent indy or autoelectrician.

I know you are relatively local to me, so just to give you somebody who can tell you more. try Bobs auto electrician 07939 565769 (he is called bob by the way). He specialises in BMWs as he worked for them for 20 years or so. Costs nothing to talk to him.

Alternatively, Baymow is a decent indy. but as its electrical, it may involve them just calling bob. either way, you will likely need a trip to edgeley to sort it for sure.

If it were me, I would ring bob and ask him about it though.

tell him dave with the black compact put you in touch. He has done enough on mine to justify name dropping now.

Yes, if the ignition is switched on with either the seatbelt pre-tensioners or the airbag disconnected, the system see the 'fault' and logs the error plus illuminates the airbag light.

You can either get a dealer to reset it or do it yourself using the Peake tool or Carsoft etc.

That would be great, Diablo944, i wouldnt expect anything less. I did disconnect the battery but reconnected it to test the sound system out. Totally forgot about the airbags.
