I need some advice to get Carsoft to work

I bought the diagnostic machine + software from an eBay seller

I'm having trouble getting the software to connect

My laptop doesn't have a serial connection
So, I purchased an external card that gives a serial connection

But this still doesn't connect to the car - I've tried chaning the com ports, but have had no luck

Is my only option to get an older laptop with a serial port?

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks

    OM

Use the search option at the top of the screen and type in carsoft as there are a few threads that may assist you further.

I think I have read that the carsoft programme works only on older laptops

Let us know how you get on and please be sure to post any findings up here as it may assist others in the future. The programme does look quite impressive considering the cost of it on ebay. £65 IIRC when I looked it up a while back

    hmmm looked up
i think i'm having the same problems as others

the safest option would be to buy a second hand laptop from ebay

question: what is the most used software for bmw's?
(erm i mean used by ordinary people and NOT garages!)

    thanks

The advantage with Carsoft is that it will reset airbag lights and display live data. IIRC with the Peake tools you need a different tool for airbag resets? At least with Peake it works out the box!

The problem with Carsoft is that you are trying to get old pirated software to work on modern laptops! However, it can be done - I have seen it work with a usb convertor on a Vista laptop.

Yes. The best converters are the PCMIA cards.

from what i've read, usb to serial is hit and miss and not reliable

the only thing with the pcmcia is that when inserted, it appears as a usb device?

the pcmcia card is have is the newer type which is a slim version

what i'll do is try another laptop
