I'm well experienced with the DIS system and have been using it forever.

But my cable has started to fray on the DIS head so I've had to switch to 'BMW Cables' USB to ODB.

I have had to change the computer setup. Pretty much followed all of the instructions... might have skipped a few

The INPA works and I can do things like resetting airbag lights and that sort of basic stuff but for some reason any time I try to use the DIS it seems to bring up an error when I want it to talk to the car.

Does anyone know what I've forgotten to do or where I have to check for the problem. As I say INPA works... just not the DIS. I can view the emulated head in the Connection Setup area. I can even connect to it and get a good signal bar at the top of the DIS window... it just won't work when I try to talk to the car.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Muchly thankyou.

Edit: p.s. - although I am very familar with DIS I am a total novice with the 'BMW Cables' USB to OBD set up. I might have overlooked something basic which you have to do when starting the DIS VM.

That is a very reasonable question.

My machine was Windows XP without a service pack as it is an old computer and I believe the updates slow down the machine. To install all of the 'BMW Cables' software I had to install a version of DOT.NET which required updating to SP2 which in turn would have installed the Windows Firewall which could eaisly be blocking communication with the DIS software.

I have no car to test this on today but I reckon this could eaisly be the cause so thanks for the advice. I'm sure it is something simple and this seems very likely to me so thank you.

Got past the error with the connection. The windows firewall was enabled so I turned that off.

    That wasn't the issue though.

The issue is that I did not know I had to run IFHSrv32 to make DIS work.

TROUBLE IS... I still have a problem. The system now gets as far as automatic vehicle identification but fails on that. In this case the car is a 2008 MINI Cooper S. I have another earlier MINI I can try so might plug that in and see if I can automatically identify that one.

Ok, read somewhere else that some of the USB cables don't work on later models and I'm just trying it on a 03' MINI Cooper and it works fine. It was a couple of years ago when I bought this kit so perhaps I should buy a later version.
