Can this be done I have 1999 e46 323i and need to check the fault for abs/asc and handbreak lights conning on together and my laptop is only a few months old so does the bmcables.com 20pin to obd2/USB thing work with this kind of problem as the guy told me it will but we all know people will say out for u to but something. We're as a chap on another eBay listing says I need a true com port on an old laptop to work inpa properly via there 20pin to PCMCIA port. Anyone clear this up or needed to do the same.

All I want to do is read the faults
Last thing I want to do is waste money on a cable thats no better than my Peake research tool which is ok for engine stuff

Edit : I have found out off the other guy that I can use a C110 scanner with a 20pin adapter which will work so maybe the best way round it .

I have a 1999 with the obd2 under the wheel and a pacman connector under the bonnet

Can only use the obd2 when the engine is running

Can only use the pacman connector if ignition is on only

Bmcables and inpa should be all you need
