what my ini file looks like with no editing using a serial double kline obd2 interface in ADS mode....

    ; Interface
; Description : Connected diagnosis interface
    ; Default = STD:OBD

    Interface =ADS

; Additional information (in German) :
; Bitte beachten: Der HW-Treiber fuer das Interface muss installiert sein!

    ; Interface = STD:OBD
; Beschreibung : Serieller Pegelwandler (Nachfolger von ADS / Anschluss an OBD-Dose)
; Installation : \EDIABAS\HARDWARE\OBD\ODBSETUP (nur noetig fuer WIN NT4, WIN 2000, WIN XP)
    ; INI-Datei : Suchreihenfolge analog zu EDIABAS.ini
    ; Unterstuetzung : WIN3.xx : Nein
    ; WIN95,98 16-Bit : Ja
    ; WIN95,98 32-Bit : Ja
    ; WIN NT 4.0 : Ja
    ; WIN XP : Ja

i still think cos you are trying to use a USB interface with INPA software that defaults to ADS only (ADS requires a double KKline interface most USB type interfaces are not double KKline), i think you need an INPA version which gives you an interface type select menu when installing so you can de-select ADS mode..you also may need an FTDI driver to create a USB/serial VCP depending on your INPA version and type of interface..

i have a later INPA version with interface select but ive not tried it out tho, as my smaller default ADS version works fine anyway with serial interfaces..

For Inpa it's obd.ini you modify. I mentioned ediabas.ini as I was curious if other ini files were there and viewable.

Good point on the FTDI driver.

Right i've managed to download the version i posted earlier,i found it on another site with the user reporting similar problems to me using the exact same cable.
I've unpacked it,its alot bigger than the versions i currently have and contains the OBD files so fingers crossed.
Its gonna be sunday before i can test, watch this space, lol.

Thanks for all the contributions so far.
