Unfortunately this guide is only tested with the USB interface specified, but let us know how you get on - could you click the Thumbs Up icon bottom left of the original article? I'm still trying to get this article 'stickied' by the mods are ignoring me...

Given it the thumbs up :-)

Got it hooked up with the vagcom cable, managed to read fault codes ok, saw lots of communications errors when trying to interogate anything other than the engine ecu though.
I had one error only, what does the shadow memory mean, there were 4 errors within that bit?

Not entirely sure of the difference, FAL will hopefully help with this question

My understanding is that it’s used for warranty claims and recalls - usually only readable/clearable with factory/developer software tools and not dealer/3rd party software tools.

I've just bought this cable as well and look forward to following your instructions. Can I ask, why didn't you use the software provided with the cable?

The software supplied with the cable didn't seem to be complete and so I chose instead to find a trusted source of the software. The two links that I have provided are all that you need, although I'm not saying that it's impossible to get it working using the supplied software.

Gordon, have you followed the instructions with regards to how to install the cable? It is also important to always insert the cable back into the same USB port else it won't work. Try this, insert the cable into your laptop, then go into Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager and look for 'Unknown Devices', if you can find one, double-click the entry, click 'Update Driver' and then browse to the folder containing the driver (this is included on the CD that ships with the cable).
