Some update about vmWare version of DIS: Some say, that it is not possible to set up DIS on vmWare in Windows 7 64bit edition. That is not true. Today I tested it and the only problem is, that it does not work with the version of EDIABAS installed with the files from the first post. The newest version running with vmWare DIS and diaghead emulator is 6.4.7. The only thing you need to do is to copy the older version of EDIABAS (up to 6.4.7) eg. to the C:\EDIABAS\OLD\ directory and run the ifhsrv32.exe file from \BIN\ subfolder of the old version and not from the new version in the first post.

Everything running fine, tested this morning on my E39 535i, Dell Vostro V131, i5, 8 GB RAM, Win7 64bit.

Hi there, I used to have this installed on a very old xp machine, but alas that one Died, I am trying to set it up on a Win 7 lappy, decent specs, but that shouldn't be a problem, I have installed as per guide, but not working, when I connect to car, I get the INA screen, and the first 2 tabs, but all the rest are blanked out, as if the info is not there for it, please could someone help me to rectify this as I have a dash light up and would like to check/clear this. If possible could someone teamviewer me to help sort the install, you can reach me at fixer14@hotmail.com, or 07530941299, I would be really glad of the help.
I can Donate something towards the help.

Okies, I have done it, for some reason the second update was not completing, but wiped the bmw software off, reset the Variables, uninstalled and reset the port settings, started all over again and completed now....I am showing a Lambda sensor fault. Which is what I thought it was.

PLEASE POST YOUR FEEDBACK/SUCCESS (oh, and any failures )

Thank you for all the helpful information. I bought the exact cable and the cd, but when I go into the INSTPROG.exe file and try changing the configurations to 'BMW Group Rectification Programs UK' and hit enter, I get an error message that the LZH archive file is missing. After this, the installation is canceled. Can anyone help me correct this problem? I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and I have prepped my laptop's path and the Latency timer. I have a camshaft issue and it's no the sensor, so I am eager to use this software to correct this issue on my e38 01 740i. I need your help

Be very wary of the guy selling in the section just above. We were in the same position, bought the new cable and software but couldn't get it to work and the vendor has not replied to any e-mails, phone messages or texts. My son-in-law who did the previous installation is no slouch when it comes to software etc but the limited flexibility you have with this one click installation has beaten him so we are going elsewhere.

If you buy the new cable from this person grand@my-star.co.uk the CD's 2 off come with it all you do is put them in and click install and it does it all for you no messing about .They have worked it out so it self installs .
I got my cable a while ago and like most of you had problems instaling it got it working after a while then this guy who i got cable from offerd me to send my cable back to him and they would up date it and send the latest software self installing and it worked no problem at all. i put it on a note book windows 7 pro fresh install except for chrome on it the install takes a while but as I said it does it on it's own you have 6 thing's to install .
It has gone on no problem at all and it all works no problem very happy with it . Took us 3 weeks to get the old software up and running .

    I need some help :-)

    I have done:

    7. Install BMW Tools

From the above extracted file set, find the file 'Step 1_ Install BMW Tools.exe', right-click on it and select 'Properties'.
Click on the Compatibility tab and change the dropdown to Windows XP SP3 as the Compatibility Mode, also tick 'Run As Administrator', then click 'Ok'
Double-click on the above file to start the installation.

My default path starts with c:\temp and I am changing it to c:\BMW Tools but when I press Install nothing happens and the window just shuts down. It happens both when I press install with c:\temp or c:\BMW Tools. The install button wont do anything :( What to do??

for people getting the "Invalid Picture" error on step 2, make sure you haven't modified the "TMP" environment variable for either system or user. that should only point to your temp location, not be a list. Only modify the system TEMP (and the user PATH)
