I have got a GT1 machine installed on VMWare and EasyDIS powers on, what do I need to do next in order to communicate with the car and start coding? I have a modified VAGCOM KKL cable.

What guide are you following? I'd make sure you can connect to your car using Inpa as that's one of the basics.

Once that's working you'll then have to change the protocol to fister and test using APItest before connecting to your car using GT1.
