First let me say Hi to all you guys, and what a great form this is, I have recently joined from the Discovery forum as this is my first BMW.
I have a 318 E46 touring with the M43 engine, and the Engine check light has come on, after speaking to the previous owner he tells me this came on before and was diagnosed as the lamba sensor, which he had replaced and the light turned off.
After reading various threads and checking various things on my car I discovered the breather pipe split/damaged from the rocker cover to the inlet manifold area, I have ordered one and will be fitting it the weekend, my question is can anyone local to me switch off the engine check light for a few beer tokens? as my OBD2 code reader will not work.
I live in Stourbridge in the West Midlands, or is it something the main dealer has to do.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply, its a 2000 w reg car so its not OBD2, I have tried my OBD2 code reader and keep getting a link error message. Having read various threads about diagnostic solutions, and the fact I want to keep the car a while I have decided to buy a Peake Diagnostic Tool.
So hopefully it should be here by the weekend, I will update this thread as I go.

if ya have a laptop or an old one spare, BMW INPA is the way to go the software comes free and the interface cable can be had cheaply...it gives you full diagnostics and code reading ability capability and hook up to all modules not just the engine ECU...
