I have a carsoft setup with an old laptop, serial port connection to a 'rectangular' ODB connector, and a 'rectangular to Round' adaptor cable.

My old laptop died. I have a new Windows 7 laptop with no serial port, it seems I am best off buying new software + the USB-to-rectangular ODB cable off eBay.

my query is: if I buy new software + a USB-to-rectangular ODB cable off eBay, will the 'rectangular to Round' adaptor cable work ok with my car - which obviously has the Round port under the bonnet?

    Many thanks.

You can get USB to RS232 converter cables...cheaper option if you have the set up already
