If I double click it, it will just open it as a text file.

    The transponder is at fault
You will need to read the ews information then rewrite it Back to the ews as if it was a new ews unit

Then you can stick the key in turn the ignition on for 30 secs

It should run as per a normal automated .ipo file, although it does require WinEldi support and thus, an older install of Standard Tools (which i would guess most members on here are using).

No... Like i said it's all a bit new to me (the volvo is so much easier !) - I'll try it tomorrow & post back... In the meantime any idea where i can find dis v44?
No problem. I've got an ISO image of the DIS v44 Base Disc and an ISO of the DIS v44 Data Disc - can upload these if you need them. Never use it myself and my knowledge of it is limited, although TheEnd is a bit of a DIS whizz.

Thanks FAL, Chiptune & The End!

Think chiptune has nailed it, the biggest clue being that one key has a weak transponder - tried loading up DIS v44 last night but i'm not sure the image i have is any good, it loads the os on the vm then halts after about 2mins with just a static cursor - so FAL i would like to have a copy of yours if thats ok?...

Bit cheeky i know but how would i do that ? or.... what would it cost (roughly) to have an additional key made & this stuff done ?

    Thanks - Steve

    Hi Guys...

Taken a different aproach to this at the moment -

I've removed the transponder chip from the working (weak) key & fitted it into the other one - It now starts the car properly - after inspection it looks like the charging coil was damaged (under microscope) - so it would seem that the coil acts as the antenna as well as the charging pickup....

The downside is i now only have one key - can timpsons clone these ? - or is it poss to get another one cut & the transponder programed ??

We're selling the car as she dont like green! - think i fancy an e39 m5.... promised myself an 850 when i turn 50 so i'll have to get DIS up & running properly to disable the speed limiter - (here there good for 180mph) - Nice!

    Steve

I think Timpsons can only copy the blade, Have a look through the yellow pages and you might find someone to make a new key, or try BMW too, as they'll have maybe 6 free key slots available.
