    Hi,
I am new to the forum so I aplologise if this question has been asked before (my searches didn't reveal anything). Does anyone know of any manuals that detail the diagnostic codes for the DIS V57 software? The software displays codes '120001 General Malfunction at Engine' and '120002 No Engine Start Possible' when I perform a quick test in diagnostics, with no further information available. Hours of searching the web has returned nothing.

Those are symptoms you can select to help track down a fault, they aren't your actual fault codes.

    Thank you for the reply.

    They are not selectable.

I have recently installed the software on to my laptop but there is very little information on how to use it. The car won't start so the symptom is right. Do you know of any manuals that would help with the diagnosis?

Well, all you should need to to is plug it in, click diagnosis, and it will identify the car.
Then you will run a quick test, and that will bring up a summary of the faults in the bottom window of the screen.

Click > again and it will guide you through tracking down the problem.

Hi, Thanks again for the reply. I had a play with the diagnostics earlier today. What you posted was very helpful. Are ALL the fault codes displayed in the bottom window of the screen? The reason I ask is my car won't start but there were no errors relating to a non starting problem i.e. there were errors for a blown bulb and intermittent faults on the door, boot and bonnet locks but nothing major. There is a battery warning (only 12V) when I start diagnostics, it is a little flat but it cranks over OK. Is the quick test the only option for returnining the codes?

You can sometimes look though control module functions and function selection on the main screen and see what is in there, but if there were any codes or clues, you would have seen them already.

It is surprising there are no codes because it sounded rough one morning after which it wouldn't start. No previous symptoms. The engine cranks, there is petrol getting through, there is a spark, and it tries to kick over but just won't start. Strange.

Does anyone have any suggestions for diagnosis of a no start situation (2005 Z4)? Bearing the following in mind:
The car cut out 500-600 yards from home, turning a corner.
I managed to get the car stated after a number of ignition attempts (very unusual as it normally starts first time)
I reversed up the road and noticed white smoke from the exhaust (no smell of brake fluid, oil etc.)
    The car now won't start
No error codes relating to no starter
Done a compression test and all 4 cylinders 10.5 bar (done less than 40000 miles)
    Sparks on all 4 cylinders
    Petrol in all cylinders
Engine cranks and appears to fire (turns over pretty quickly)

    Thanks in advance

It sounds a bit like it is flooded.
