Im wondering if anyone can help i have DIS operating on my laptop running windows vista. The software worked fine diagnostics were fine and it all worked it bought the software from ebay a few years back and came with a usb diagnostic plug i got it all setup following the instructions no problems. Then
I gave my laptop to my brother to play with on his e46 and now i have it back i have just tried to use DIS but am given the following message: Diagnosis Bus error, Communication between operating unit and diagnostic head is impaired. error number 200.166.
Does anyone know how to cure this?

OK, so the lead works, and the ediabas bit should be OK.
It might be easier to start again and load in the DIS virtual machine again like new.

Once you get it working, you can save a snapshot which is like a restore point and you can always come back to it at any point.

You can leave all that in, but get a new virtual machine.
If you have a dvd/disc with it on (a .VMDK file)
Just reimport that again, and start anew.

Check your OBD.ini in c:\ediabas\bin and make sure the COM port is set correctly.
Copy that, and put it in c\windows too, just dump it in anywhere.

What type of lead have you got?
If it is a USB one, it is probably on a different port.
