    Hi all yet another question
    firstly can you use a 20pin to odb to use a reader
    are the cheap ones from china any use at all i know the might be basic but it might save a trip to a garage
    i have also seen a £9.00 service reset tool is it worth it or is there a work round
    i know its a bit penny pinching but i am trying to run the 530d on a budget but do the best i can
    already had full oil and filter service set tyres set discs had the inlet off no swirlflaps cleaned and disconected the egr

    software=free
    leads=£17 delivered
    just need a cheapo laptop= a full BMW diagnostics setup for minimal money....

    generic OBD handheld readers wont work on diesels at all before 2004, even then they only scan engine codes not body, chassis,drivetrain etc etc...

    the above ya get the lot and its all BMW specific aswell with live data diags and GUI pages and not generic...
    330i sport a big chunk of berlin...

    You'll also need the laptop to OBDII lead, if you've a serial port fitted to the laptop I'd opt for that type of lead otherwise you'll need the USB type.
