    hi all

I am one for a bargain and if I can get away from paying full price...I will..

looking on Amazon I found a..... Ldex WIFI Wireless OBD2 OBDII Car Auto Diagnostic Scanner Adapter Reader ...... which is £13.99 way wayway cheaper than the carly reader at £57.00.... it looks like a Carly OBD plug but does it work with Carly

has anybody tried it and does it work or is it a cheap Con?

(sorry if Q was asked before)

Interesting question which I'd be keen to know also as the cost of both app and their adapter is rather steep.

Id imagine if the OBD reader has the necessary protocols, then it should work with the carly app.

So many times i see things like this and every time I have the same thought process, which is ;- how long will it be before you hit a problem that comes back with the answer of 'are you using the official obd connector/cable/device?'. I am not trying to put anyone off, I am like everyone else in that I dont want to waste money, but sometimes biting the bullet is the 'safe' option. The whole point of the carly app is its so called user friendliness, so adding any outside influence leads to the possibility of a problem even though you may have 99 percent of what you need from a third party connection. But that 1 percent? Knowing my luck it would be the 1 percent that was where my issue would be. I was briefly dragged into the whole bmw obd coding/diagnostic side of things when my gm5 failed and had to be replaced. Lots of playing around with inpa, ncsexpert and the like on laptop. But for everyday code reading and resets (and i have no idea which models this works with, i just know it does mine) I have a c110+ thats fine and dandy for simple code reads and resets and that 30 pound gadget now lives with the car with the big guns kept as a backup if things get more interesting. So for my ten cents, buying the right part in the first place negates any 'potential' for issues later.
All that said, if the 'knock off' part does everything, then come back and tell everyone, as money saved is money saved. I am old enough to remember the nightmare years of computers, when companies like dell used proprietary cables and made working with pcs a real pain. Its corrupted my way of thinking at times.

I'm with Diablo, I seem to remember someone posting they had bought a similar looking cheaper adapter which did connect and work with the Carly app and most but not all of the functions worked properly. Not only that, the app is regularly updated with new functions and bug fixes. There is a risk that it might not work after an update etc.
