At a guess I'd suggest a USB-serial cable / com port issue is most likely. Have you had a good look around device manager?

yeah man, sat out in my car for about 2 hours messing with all the settings.

Ive been building computers for about 10 years and working with them daily for the past 4 years now, so i know my way round them quite well, but this has me stumped... i figure its gotta be a hardware issue... but i dont know whether its the usb/rs232 cable or the carsoft device itself...

tried it on both ports, underbonnet and firstly and mostly the cabin port :( stll no luck :(

Ste, where did you buy that USB/RS232 adaptor? Some of that chinese cr*p have got the receive/transmit lines crossed.

I'd assume if the data link lights are displaying on the interface box the box is working.

The USB-serial converters are notorious for not working with carsoft. The PCMIA adapters are meant to be a lot better. Seing as you have paid for the carsoft interface it's probably worth chucking another £10 at it. It will save you more in the long run!

I use the BMW diag port under the bonnet rather than the oblong OBD2 port.
